Endodontics

I fear the dentist. I fear the endodontist even more, but after eight years of avoiding a dental office I decided it was time to go back. I brush 3 times a day, floss twice, I even swish with high octane mouth wash that is supposed to kill anything my brushing and flossing has left behind. I got a good report, one filling needs repair, but other than a cleaning I have taken excellent care of my teeth.

Enter the Fall Funk.

I have incredibly LONG roots to my teeth.  My sinus cavities became painful and BAM my teeth start to hurt. I blame it on the dentist and that horribly chatty dental assistant who contorted my jaw in order to get better pictures.  I wait it out thinking it will go away, well Monday night I was nearly in tears, nothing was really helping with the pain and by Tuesday I was considering yanking my own teeth out. I called the dentist instead and came home early from work. By 2pm they had me at an endodontists office taking more x-rays. And by 2:20 I was bawling. Part of it was nerves, the rest was how nasty the receptionist spoke to me. I am incredibly emotional when I am not feeling well.

Finally I stopped crying and the endo put me on nitrous. It was claustrophobic and soon they fit a tarp in my mouth and were drilling away. Eventually it was done and Ike, the endo, was telling me that for the next couple of days I am going to hate him because of how deep my roots actually were he had to give me a lot more Novocaine than he originally thought.

He turned my mouth into hamburger and not until today was I able to eat something that required chewing. I lived on yogurt, oatmeal, and pudding. I did have scrambled eggs twice, but the second time they upset my stomach something fierce. Now that I am no longer taking Tylenol 3 I think they had more to do with stomach upset then the eggs did.

Its been 3 days now and my mouth is almost totally healed, I have a strange lump above the tooth that he worked on. A bit of a concern, but maybe by Monday it will have gone down and I do not have to go see the endo again. I shall see.
